Welcome to the Neil Armstrong Elementary School Library Online

A Message from Mrs. Golden

Dear Eagles,

Welcome to summer everyone! Wishing you all an enjoyable, fun, and restoring summer vacation.

As we all know, summer reading is so essential to maintaining progress earned over the school year. Please keep up your reading, Eagles! You all are reading champions, so let's come back to school in August with lots of reading adventures to share. I can't wait to hear all of your stories.

Mrs. Golden's Summer Reading Tips for Neil Armstrong Eagles

1. Set a summer reading goal. Make sure it's achievable and means something to you. I will announce that my summer reading goal is to try the Wings of Fire series... I know, I know- you can't believe I haven't yet! I will tell you all about this adventure when we get back to library in the fall.

2. Participate in the Contra Costa County Library Summer Reading Program, Reading Colors Your World.

  • June 1st - July 31st
  • All details at https://ccclib.org/summer/.
  • All finishers get to choose a free book  and are entered into a raffle for prizes!

2. Please consider embarking on a Family Read Aloud together over the summer! In my opinion, this is one of the BEST ways to foster a love of reading.

  • Some of Mrs. Golden's Favorite Family Read-Alouds
    • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
    • Wishtree
    • Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
    • Wonder
    • A Wrinkle in Time
    • Front Desk
    • Nathaniel Fludd: Beastologist (series)
    • The Last Firehawk (series)
    • The Littles

3. Read what you love! Whatever interests you and makes you excited for the discovery, then that is a summer reading adventure ready to flourish!  Chuckling at a graphic novel you're rereading, learning about a new app or coding language, exploring beautiful picture books, tackling tough chapter books you've been dreaming about reading... all of these are perfect and fabulous summer reading adventures!  In my opinion, it is imperative students have independent reading choice, which will, in turn, make them want to READ MORE!

Here's to many sunny summer reading adventures!
